A Resonance Theory of Truth
What do we mean when we say something is true? What about if it rings true? Or holds true?
We sometimes use imagery from vision to describe understanding, like black and white, or light and dark.
But I think the better metaphor is sound.
Something that rings true harmonizes with an existing truth-sound.
But where do truth-sounds come from? From us? Yes, from us, but not only from us. We do contribute, though, and that is important.
Truths change when voices speak. But there are voices that we cannot speak over. Or at least, voices that we cannot drown out.
We would do well to listen for them and learn their sounds. That is one way to hold true.
